Dan Kitson is a restaurant industry vet who’s killing it with his newest venture, Henley’s Village Tavern located in the heart of Brightwaters. He has implemented the gastropub and scratch kitchen concept to Long Island and is creating a buzz within the community about his incredible menu. Although Henley’s is small in size, its presence is powerful, turning the traditional pub on its head and creating a place where neighbors can come together and enjoy great gourmet comfort food.
The space, which was previously commandeered by an old style Irish Pub, has gone through a complete physical transformation. This is symbolic of an industry trend which has been sweeping through urban cities over the last decade as new age gastropubs replace vintage Irish watering holes. Their scratch kitchen concept keeps the menu fresh and interesting, ensuring that each time you come in you’ll find something new and exciting.
The space is small and quaint seating just 35 guests with room for another 15 at the bar. Behind the beautiful wood bar are two wall mounted tap towers that feature seasonally driven craft beer selections, top shelf bottles, and glass jars full of their housemade pickles. The space has plenty of natural light that fills the dining room and provides a perfect view of the busy village square. Bottles of wine line the far wall with a chalkboard menu featuring the house favorites. Wood ceilings and steel fixtures give Henley’s a rustic yet modern look that is reminiscent of a NYC hot spot.
What's on the Menu
Aside from the scratch kitchen, which changes day to day, the menu includes items that you won’t find at any chain restaurant or bar. The Tavern Spring Rolls stuffed with shredded chicken, shaved cabbage, gorgonzola, and classic wing sauce are a fan favorite as well as the Brisket and Wild Mushroom Empanada, the Guinness Braised Brisket Sandwich, and the Hanger Steak Sandwich to name a few. Just reading the menu makes your mouth water and the variety makes it easy for diners to always experiment with something new. If you’re not feeling daring, Henley’s Village Burger and fries with whiskey glazed bacon, cheddar cheese and tobacco onion straws is a traditional favorite that will never disappointment.
